Leeds United kick-off their 2019/20 Championship campaign this Sunday as they take Lee Johnson's Bristol City side away at Ashton Gate.
After the disappointment of losing to Derby County 4-3 on aggregate in the Championship play-off semi-finals last season, Marcelo Bielsa's side will be looking for a positive start to the new season.
The Whites will be aiming to take confidence from their pre-season results into this weekends game, as they lost 2, drew 1 and won 5 of their 8 friendly games during the summer.
Meanwhile Lee Johnson will be hoping that his Bristol City side will be able to bounce back from a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Premier League side Crystal Palace at home last weekend. However, the Robins will have to adapt to life without defender Adam Webster after recently selling him for £20 million to Premier League side Brighton. Webster is a landmark loss who is arguably one of the better defenders in the division.
Marcelo Bielsa revealed in his pre-match press conference that Leeds United will be without defender Luke Ayling and forwards Kemar Roofe and Tyler Roberts through injury, but new signings Helder Costa and Ben White will be hoping to make their debut's for the club.
Previous meetings
Leeds United have only lost once in their last 14 meetings with Bristol City, drawing two and picking up a staggering 11 victories.
Two of those wins came last season as the Whites did the double over the Robins. When they met at Ashton Gate in March, striker Patrick Bamford scored the only goal of the game to give Leeds the three points.
The last time Leeds and Bristol City met on the opening day of the season was in 1979, with Alan Curtis scoring twice on his debut for the Whites as the two teams drew 2-2.
