Leeds United vs Southampton Preview: Leeds aim to return to winning ways against lacklustre Saints

Leeds United host Southampton at Elland Road on Tuesday evening as they look to return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.

The Whites lost 1-0 away at Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out, however, Bielsa's side showed a good account of themselves and would've felt unlucky in the way in which they lost on Friday night.

Wolves' winner came in the second half, with Adama Traore cutting inside from the left and getting a shot off on goal. Hit effort though did not go in, the ball instead crashed back out off the post, hit Illan Meslier in the back, and rolled over the line.

That goal meant back-to-back defeats for Leeds and saw them drop down into 12th place in the Premier League table on 32 points, just ten points above the relegation zone.

Leeds will no doubt be looking to return to winning ways on Tuesday evening and put to rest any fears that they might be pulled into a relegation battle. The Whites will certainly fancy their chances on Tuesday as they face an out-of-form Southampton.

Southampton were tipped as top-four contenders after their tremendous start to the Premier League, however, they're now a long way off from where they were just a few months ago as they sit in 14th place in the league table on 30 points, two points behind Leeds and just eight points above the bottom three.

The Saints have been on a poor run of form recently, losing six Premier League games in a row in which they conceded a staggering 20 goals. They did however pick up a good point last time out, drawing 1-1 at home with Chelsea thanks to a goal from January loan-signing Takumi Minamino.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side will be hoping to build on Saturday's draw with Chelsea and they certainly have players who can cause Leeds a few problems with midfielder James Ward-Prowse, who has five goals and five assists to his name this campaign, and striker Danny Ings who is the clubs top goal-scorer this season with eight.

TEAM NEWS

Leeds United remains without six players because of injury, including influential midfielder Kalvin Phillips (calf).

Spanish defender Diego Llorente is available for selection again after recovering from a hamstring injury. The 27-year-old returned to the match-day squad against Wolves and could make his first appearance since January.

Meanwhile, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says midfielder Stuart Armstrong has a "50-50" chance of recovering from a muscle problem in time to play on Tuesday evening.

Theo Walcott, Kyle Walker-Peters and Ibrahima Diallo are still sidelined.
