Brentford v Leeds: Leeds look to return to winning ways and make it a happy Easter

Updated: Oct 26, 2019

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United side travel South next as they take on Brentford away at Griffin Park on Easter Monday.

Leeds go into Monday's game after a disappointing defeat last Friday. The Whites lost 2-1 against Wigan Athletic at Elland Road despite taking the lead after the Latics were reduced to 10 men.

The results sees Leeds slip back into third in the Championship table, with Sheffield United's 2-0 home win against Nottingham Forest putting them back into the automatic promotion places on goal difference.

Bielsa's side head into the game looking for a win to remain in with a good chance of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League, and if they do pick up the three points, it will be the first time a Leeds United side has won away at Brenford since the 26th August 1950.

Bees already on the beach?

After finishing ninth last season and just six points off the play-offs, for Brentford it looked as though the aim was to go further and finish in the top six this season. But after a change in manager mid-way through the season which saw Thomas Frank replace Dean Smith who departed for Aston Villa, the Bees' form has dipped.

Brentford head into the game against Leeds having drawn 1-1 away at Millwall last time out, meaning now that they have only won one out their previous eight games.

The Bees currently sit in 15th places in the league table, 12 points from the pay-offs and 15 points above the relegation zone, so Brentford seemingly have nothing significant to play for during the remaining three games of the season.

Previous meetings

These two sides shared the spoils when they met in October earlier this season. Pontus Jansson's late equaliser cancelled out Neal Maupay's goal from the penalty spot to secure Leeds a point.
